Response Chapter 14

I liked that this chapter pointed out the fact that although we as teachers should encourage students to get creative, basic writing skills are still fundamental and neccessary. The chapter mentioned that assignments like research papers are still useful in teaching our students how to construct an informative essay, it also sharpens skills like making coherent arguements and having accurate thesis statements. I think this is important to consider when reading a text that focuses strongly on ways to get creative in writing, because it is easy to get carried away with trying to make multi genre essays really original and creative, and things like basic organization and structure can often be overlooked, even though it is a crucial skill needed in school.

While I like the Multi-Genre to be consider a form in most classrooms, the multi-genre is still a young school of thought to be in the classroom, we see on Monday about you feel and the other classmates feel about Multi-Genre papers used in the classroom.

Multigenre papers have a definite use, but I don't think they'll ever really take over the essay. I hope some of the draw backs to them were brought up in class, but I imagine that there are more. You point out one of my biggest complaints about MGs. They do seem rather impractical. The nice thing is as teachers we can force the students into organizing the work logically. If you think things through well enough before you assign it, then there's a good chance that you can stress these points no matter what you assign.
